Debutante director Aravind has set out to artistically re-investigate the “hidden truths” behind the 1998 serial bomb blasts that rocked the conscience of the city.

Titled Thelivupathaiyin Neesa Thooram, the political thriller, deals with the grey areas, hither to unknown, and takes a fresh, renewed look in to the circumstances leading to the bomb blasts which left 58 dead and over 200 injured.

“The 1.37 hour film, might be an eye-opener when it hits the screens as it deals only with naked truths, and I have presented in an unbiased manner,” Aravind told Covai Post.

“I have thoroughly investigated the truths behind the worst attack, and what I found out was something revealing, which I made into a film.” he said.

Tracing the root cause for the bomb blasts to a communal riot in 1997, which was allegedly engineered by the police to avenge the death of one Selvaraj, a constable, the film tells the stark truth as to why all 18 victims were all members of a minority community.

“There is a missing link between the 1997 riots and the 1998 serial bomb blasts and the film has re-investigated it thoroughly,” Aravind says.

Except for the veteran actress Rohini, Kamalakannan (director of Madhubaanakadai) the rest of the cast is new. The teaser of the film which has been released recently has aroused the curiosity of the film buffs and it was well -received.

“As the film is a crowd-funded project, we had to face lot of financial difficulties, but in the end our passion prevailed. The film would be sent for Censor Board certification next week and the film has already been screened in festival circuit.”

“The project demanded lot of ground work as it is a very sensitive subject and it consumed a year-and-a-half. I have to sift through a lot of material and revisited FIRs and Commission reports, interviewed riot victims’ families and even conducted our own sting operations to come out with the truth. I have presented the truths in an unbiased manner. Let the audience watch the movie and decide,” Aravind said.
