Tension at Coimbatore Collectorate after kerosene bottle found in woman’s bag

Coimbatore : A 65-year old woman was today whisked away from the district collectorate premises after a bottle of kerosene was found in her bag when she was frisked. This led to some tense moment for a while.

The woman, Veerammal of Alanthurai on the outskirts, had come to the office of Collector to submit a petition seeking intervention as her sister was ‘planning to snatch her house’.

Monday being grievances day, a large number of people came to submit petitions and police frisked before allowing them in. A woman police found a bottle of kerosene in Veerammal’s bag. She said she had purchased from the ration shop and was meant for cooking purposes at home, police said.

There had been incidents earlier where people used to come to the collectorate and attempt to commit suicide by pouring kerosene or petrol if their issues were not solved.

Veerammal later submitted her petition at the counter and left for home, police added.
