The Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC), led by G.K. Vasan, suffered a major blow with many of its senior leader breaking away from the party and returning to the Congress, following TMC’s decision to strike an alliance with the DMDK-PWF.
Among those who had returned to the Congress were Peter Alphonse and former Lok Sabha M.P. Viswanathan. The rebels, along with their supporters, joined the Congress in the presence of P. Chidambaram, and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president EVKS Elangovan. This is the second time that Peter Alphonse, the former Rajya Sabha MP, was returning to the Congress.
Elangovan, who had earlier extended an invitation to the rebel politicians to return to Congress, said that more TMC members are likely to return to Congress.
When asked about the decision of the rebels, GK Vasan said that it was not going to weaken his party’s prospects.
