“Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are not following the Apex Court ruling of 50 per cent reservation, but continuing with 69 per cent in education and employment. The 2nd National Conference of the All India Brahmins’ Association, beginning here on January 23, will appeal to these State Governments to strictly follow the 50 per cent reservation guidelines, as ordered by the Supreme Court,” Ramasundaram, District President of the Association, told reporters here today.

The Association had already filed a petition in this regard in the Supreme Court. It would also appeal the Centre to expedite the construction of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya, and observe the Samadhi day of Adi Shankara as a spiritual day and declare it a holiday.

Ramasundaram said that the Association had already requested the State Government to take steps to remove two statues of ‘Periyar’, which were illegally constructed in front of Chidambaram and Srirangam temples.

The conference would also ask the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna posthumously on late T.V. Rama Subba Iyer, the founder of Tamil daily, Dinamalar, who was also a freedom fighter. There would also be a demand to build a memorial at his birthplace in Nagercoil, Ramasundaram said.
