The Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam (TPDK) has announced that it will lay siege of Vellore Jail on January 10 in order to free the seven life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
TPDK General Secretary, K. Rarmakrishnan said that the seven convicts – Santhan, Perarivalan, Murugan, Nalini, Ravichandran, Robert Pious, and Jayakumar – who are in prison for the past 24 years, should be immediately released under Article 161 of the Constitution.
The association is trying to put pressure on the state government to use its powers given by the Constitution to release the convicts.
