About six years ago, a few friends who were passionate about working towards the conservation of nature, came together and formed the Wild Wing Trust (WWT). Ever since the WWT came into being it continues to work towards creating more environmentally responsible individuals who would support and help in conservation initiatives. Tribal education, nature awareness and capacity building programmes for frontline staff of Forest Department are the major activities of this Trust.

Greenspiration is a workshop on environmental and wildlife conservation that is organised by this Trust. “Motive of this workshop is to create more number of environmentally responsible people who would be able to spread the message and support the conservation efforts on environment and wildlife. So, we are targeting amateur environmentalists who have the passion and urge to become environmentally responsible and take part in the conservation efforts,” Saravanan G., Founder of Wild Wing Trust, says.

This year the Trust has plans of organising Greenspiration. Karthikeyan Srinivasan, Chief Naturalist, Jungle Lodges and Resorts, Karnataka, Ramki Srinivasan, Co Founder – Conservation India, Gerry Martin, Sangeetha Kadur, Wildlife Illustrator and U.N. Ravikumar, an environmentalist and engineer from Mysore, are expected to deliver their talk at this edition of Greenspiration that will be organised on May 7 and 8.

Another activity that the Trust continues to work towards is tribal education. This Trust has been working with the tribal communities of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) for the last four years. “Through the WWT, we continue to support children from tribal families. So far, we have sponsored the higher education of about 25 students in belts like Anaimalai Hills, Top Slip and Valparai. We have started observing a positive trend among the tribal kids to pursue higher education. Parents have started to understand the importance of education, which is important for their socio-economic growth,” Saravanan says. Founder of this Trust also shares with us that a majority of their core members were from these areas.
