Superstar Rajinikanth must be on cloud nine as his last two films Kaala and Petta turned out to be blockbusters at the box office. Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj locked horns with Ajith’s Viswasam on January 9. Both films have crossed the Rs 150-crore mark and are still going strong at the box office.
Thalaivar is 68 years old and still manages to churn out one film a year. In the last 7 months, three of his films have released and collectively, they have earned Rs 1000 crore at the box office worldwide. It’s indeed a terrific contribution to Tamil film industry.
According to Sun Pictures, the production house of Petta, their film collected Rs 100-crore by the end of 11 days of its theatrical run. The film is now said to have crossed Rs 200 crore at the box office and theatre owners are planning to screen the film another couple of weeks.
Since both films have impressed the audience, multiplexes have decided to extend Petta and Viswasam in Malaysia and Toronto for the fourth week.
In addition, the Rajinikanth film has made double the money than Viswasam in UAE. While the Ajith-starrer raked in Rs 4.50 crore in 11 days, Petta has made Rs 7.88 crore.
