Popular television actress VJ Chitra dies by suicide

Popular television actress VJ Chitra of Pandian Stores fame died by suicide in the wee hours of Wednesday. She was 29. According to reports, Chitra hung herself at a hotel room in Nazrathpet in Chennai. The actress is said to taken the extreme step upon returning to her hotel from a shoot.

Police officials said that they are currently ascertaining the cause of her death. Her friends in the industry and fans have been paying emotional tributes. Meanwhile, her father Kamaraj lodged a complaint at the Nazrathpet police station, alleging foul play in her death.

While a few reports say that she was engaged to a businessman who goes by the name Hemanth, a few others report that she had married him in a civil ceremony about two months back. This is yet to be confirmed by the police, though.

Chitra was known for her role of Mullai in the hit serial Pandian Stores. “Please please talk it out. Dont let ur pains take away you life. Speak out to someone , get a hold on ur self and live life with strength and happiness. Never let anyone or anything become more precious than ur life #RIPChitra (sic),” VJ Anjana Rangan wrote on Twitter, condoling Chitra’s demise.
