Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Kaala, directed by Pa Ranjith was supposed to hit the theatres worldwide on April 27.

However, the film’s release will most likely be postponed, according to sources close the team.

With the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council protesting against the exorbitant VPF (Virtual Print Fee) charges levied by Digital Service Providers, the makers of Kaala don’t seem to be able to release the film on the scheduled date.

The latest buzz is that the makers are targeting a June release for Kaala. The official announcement regarding the film’s release is expected to be out by the end of this week or next week.

Earlier, Lyca Productions, who is distributing Kaala, stated that they will comply with TFPC’s rule.

They wrote, “We are in sync with the Producers’ Council and in complete support of the demands. We will comply with the same till the system is rectified.”

TFPC has also stated that there are over 40 films waiting to release and priority will be given to those films which got censored first.

In Kaala, Rajinikanth will be seen as an ageing gangster fighting for the welfare of the people living in Dharavi in Mumbai. Actors Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Samuthirakani will be seen in important roles.
