Actor and Telugu Desam party leader Harikrishna dies in road accident in Andhra Pradesh

Sixty-one-year old Nandamuri Harikrishna, Telugu Desam party leader and brother in law of Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu, died in an early morning road accident near Nalgonda in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

The fourth son of former chief minister and founder of Telegu Desam party, NT Ramarao, Harikrishna was fond of driving long distance and had got into a luxury SUV at 4.30 am at his Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad. He started for Kavali in Nellore for marriage of a fan.

Harikrishna, who was driving a luxury Toyota Fortuner, hit a median on the highway and lost control of the vehicle that turned turtle and flipped several times over at a high speed. He received grievous head injuries and passed away at a local hospital.

Local police officials said the actor did not wear seat belt and was thrown out of the vehicle and hit the road, and his head banged on the road with force. He was rushed to local hospital where he was declared dead by doctors.

Harikrishna, the actor, producer and director is survived by his wife and two sons, Jr NTR and Kalyan Ram. In a strange and tragic coincidence, Harikrishna had lost his son Janakiram in an accident that took place not far from the spot where he himself died.

The actor would have been 62 on Sunday. Harikrishan was the only MP from Andhra Pradesh to resign from Rajya Sabha in protest against bifurcation of the state in 2014.

Harikrishna had joined Chandrababu Naidu when he revolted against NTR and was made a minister in Naidu’s cabinet. After falling out with Naidu, Harikrishna had floated a political party that died a natural death after few months. He rejoined the TDP in 2006 and was made Rajya Sabha member.
