With the death of another kid today at the hospital, the death toll has gone up to 63. All the deaths have been blamed on infections and shortage of oxygen supply.
A day after the horrific deaths of over 30 children was reported fromBaba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked two of his ministers including the state health minister to visit the city and submit a report.
With the death of another kid today at the hospital, the death toll has gone up to 63. All the deaths have been blamed on infections and shortage of oxygen supply. The hospital has, however, denied that there was any shortage of oxygen supply.
UP Technical and Education Minister Ashutosh Tandon said that CM Yogi Adityanath had asked him and Health Minister Siddarth Nath Singh to visit the Gorakhpur hospital and submit a report on the deaths of children.
“Proper investigation is to be done and quick action needs to be taken. It is a serious issue and the Opposition should not politicise the issue,” said Siddarth Nath Singh while speaking to media persons.
Meanwhile, more appalling details have emerged underlining the poor health facilities at the hospital.
One of the doctors today said that number of patients increase during monsoon season and two patients are admitted on the same bed. The hospital does not have enough number of doctors, he said.
Following Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s directive, party leaders have headed to Gorakhpur. Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Raj Babbar, Sanjay Singh and Pramod Tewari are scheduled to visit Gorakhpur.
However, the hospital’s Chief Medical Superintendent RS Shukla rejected reports that the kids died due to insufficient oxygen supply. The state government has also rubbished reports about non-availability of oxygen at the hospital.
In April, the Yogi Adityanath government announced that it had started work on setting up six AIIMS and 25 new medical colleges in the state. Setting up AIIMS in UP was one of the promises made in the BJP election manifesto.
