Jan Shatabdi Express engine catches fire in Assam’s Nagaon district

The engine of a Jan Shatabdi Express train caught fire at Kampur area in Assam’s Nagaon district on Wednesday night. The incident took place in between Kampur railway station and Laopani railway station.

There was no report of any casualties in the incident.

After spotting the fire, the loco pilot of the Guwahati-bound passenger train applied brakes, following which the panicked passengers got off.

An official of Kampur railway station said the train was stranded in between Kampur and Laopani railway station after the engine of the train caught fire.

Following the incident, several trains were stranded at different railway stations for several hours. Later, the track was cleared after a lift engine arrived at the location.

The cause the fire is yet to be ascertained.
