Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi visit has already courted controversy after the local administration asked the 47-year-old MP to postpone his trip over security concerns.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will start his three-day visit to his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi today after a gap of more than seven months.

Rahul’s Amethi visit has already courted controversy after the local administration asked the 47-year-old MP to postpone his visit.

In a letter to Rahul Gandhi, the local administration said that police are already deployed to maintain law and order during Durga Puja and Muharram and therefore the administration will be unable to ensure adequate security to the Congress vice-president.

The letter angered the Congress which alleged that the administration was trying to prevent Rahul Gandhi from visiting Amethi. Congress spokesperson from UP, Akhilesh Pratap Singh said, “BJP is scared of Rahul Gandhi. BJP government in Uttar Pradesh doesn’t want Rahul Gandhi to visit his constituency before Amit Shah’s tour.”

Subsequently, the Congress vice-president received the green signal from the administration to go ahead with his Amethi visit and was also assured of protection.

“We urged Rahul Gandhi in a confidential letter to postpone his visit due to security reasons on account of Durga Puja, Muharram and Gandhi Jayanti, but the visit could not be postponed,” siad Amethi district magistrate Yogesh Kumar.
