Pilgrims to Sabarimala will soon see a new door for the hill shrine.
A devaprasnsm (an astrological ritual seen as interpreting the will of gods) conducted at Sabarimala has found that the shrine door had decayed and had to be replaced.
A sculptor from Guruvayur, Elavalli Nandanam, has designed, on the basis of specific measurements, the door made in teakwood. This has been kept at
The Elampilly Dharma Sastha Temple, near Pala.
and is being taken to Sabarimala on Monday. After ensuring that it willfit well with the door frame, it is to be brought back for engravings and other art works.
The door was built at Guruvayur and then taken to Elampilly on request of devotees there who had offered bells placed at the front of the shrine last year.
According to authorities, once the door is brought back, it will be plated in gold and engravings in Hyderabad after which it will bebrought back to the Elampilly temple.
From there it would be taken to Sabarimala in a procession of devotees in the area, temple authorities said.
