Guwahati: There was high drama on a Air Asia flight after the cabin crew discovered a dead infant in the toilet minutes before the flight was to land on Thursday.

After all the passengers were questioned in the Guwahati-Delhi flight, a 19-year-old Assamese woman admitted to having given birth to the baby but said she wasn’t aware that she was pregnant. The woman has been detained, reported BBC. “She gave birth to a seven-and-a-half month baby in the plane’s toilet and left it on the floor,” DCP (airport) Sanjay Bhatia was quoted as saying by BBC.

“A doctor from the medical team at Delhi International Airport confirmed that the baby had been delivered on board,” said AirAsia in a statement. According to reports, the baby was found with its mouth stuffed with toilet paper.

Bhatia said police were waiting for a post-mortem report to find out how the baby had died. The woman, a taekwondo fighter, was not allowed to board her connecting flight to South Korea, the report said. In a statement, Air Asia India said the matter had been reported to the DGCA and apologised to passengers for experiencing disruptions in their flight schedule.
