Coimbatore: Rajasthan Royals had an off day in their comeback game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium in Hyderabad. Having lost the toss nothing went going The Royals lost their opener D’Arcy Short to a brilliant runout by Kane Williamson with the Australian managing just four runs. Sanju Samson who came in next did some resurrection work with Rahane before the latter too holed up one with the scoreboard reading 52 for 2. The prized purchase of Ben Stokes was of no use with the English all-rounder leaving in a jiffy. The batsmen who followed couldn’t do much with Sanju Samson getting out for gritty 49.

For Sunrisers it was Siddarth Kaul who took two wickets in his quota of four overs while conceding just 17 runs. The Rajasthan Royals could manage only 125/9 in the allotted 20 overs. The Sunrisers got off to a shaky start losing Wriddhiman Saha early but Shikar Dhawan along with skipper Kane Williamson helped chase down the target in just 15.4 overs. Dhawan was adjudged player of the match for scoring 77 off just 57 deliveries. Though both teams were without their regular skippers David Warner and Steve Smith, Sunrisers Hyderabad has proved that they don’t require an explosive opener like Warner to win games.

For the Royals, only Rahane and Samson reached the double digit score. Rajasthan Royals have a mountain to climb before they take on Mumbai Indians on Thursday. The bowlers and batsmen will have to tick all boxes soon since they were simply clueless about their line and length against Sunrisers Hyderabad on a good Uppal track. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the game by 9 wickets.
