It was a dismal performance by Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede yesterday. Winning the toss, RCB opted to chase and lack of collective performance hampered them once again. Captain Virat Kohli’s valiant 92 off 62 balls proved futile with no support from the other end. RCB lost to Mumbai Indians by 46 runs.

The South African duo of Quinton De Kock and AB De Villiers could not contribute much as they got out cheaply within a space of three deliveries. It all started with De Kock who was clean bowled by Mitchell McClenaghan in the fifth over, following which the rest of the batting simply collapsing. In the end all they could manage was 167-8 in 20 overs.

Krunal Pandya was the pick among bowlers with figures of 3-28 in four overs and was well supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan. Wickets were regularly taken by the Mumbai Indian bowlers allowing no batsmen to settle down.

Virat, who had single-handedly taken Team India home on many occasions could not do much to pull a rabbit out of the hat. RCB were well on course towards a target of 213 before De Kock dismissal changed everything.

For Mumbai Indians, it was a welcome omen having finally won a game this season. The start was not as expected with opener Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan walking back in succession with no runs on the scoreboard. But Evin Lewis 65 (6×4, 5×6) along with skipper Rohit Sharma 94 (10×4, 5×6) who stitched a partnership of 108, helped the team post a huge total.

RCB bowlers were hammered all around the park with Mohammed Siraj being the most economical at 8.5 RPO followed by Umesh Yadav’s 9 RPO. MI got 17 extras and RCB only 7.
