Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government has convened an all-party meeting on February 22 to discuss the Supreme Court verdict on the Cauvery water sharing, a demand by the DMK.
A Government statement said discussions were being held with law experts on the apex court’s February 16, 2018, order.
A meeting of all parties has been convened on February 22, at 10.30 a.m. at the State Secretariat to “discuss the steps to be taken to establish Tamil Nadu’s rights and also to protect the welfare of Cauvery delta farmers”.The meeting would be chaired by Chief Minister Palaniswami.
The Supreme Court reduced Tamil Nadu share of the Cauvery river water to 177.25 TMC from 192 TMC allocated by a tribunal in 2007.DMK leader Stalin had demanded that Palaniswami convene an all-party meet to discuss the unprecedented situation where the State had been ‘cheated’ and decide the next course of action. He also wanted farmer associations to be invited to the meet.
