Google Pixel-branded smartwatch running on Wear OS platform is reportedly in the works and will launch later this year at Google’s hardware event in fall, according to several reports. This bit of information was tweeted by VentureBeat author Evan Blass, and also confirmed the existence of Pixel 3, Pixel 3XL and second-gen Pixel buds. If the reports turn out to be true, then Wear OS, Google’s operating system for smartwatches will receive the much-needed impetus for OEM’s to adopt the platform and make them viable contenders to Apple Watch.

While Blass tweeted about one Pixel-branded smartwatch, Roland Quandt (@rquandt) from WinFuture replied to the tweet saying, ‘There is gonna be more than one, it seems. More like three.” The three smartwatches are reportedly codenamed Ling, Triton and Sardine. No word on the specifications of the smartwatches or if it will ever see mass production.

However, it is expected that these smartwatches will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform. The 3100 will make use of a quad-core CPU, ARM Cortex-A7 architecture, Adreno 304 GPU and a 28nm manufacturing process, according to WinFuture report.

The newer chipset is expected to be better with its new power management solution. The chip will reportedly run continuously and allow watches to respond to voice commands.

Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE connectivity is available for purchase with Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. The LTE variant of Apple Watch Series 3 allows users to place calls, send text messages, and basically use the smartwatch as a stand-alone device even when the iPhone is not around.
