Give peace a chance, Army reaches out to families of terrorists in J&K

During the ongoing ceasefire in Kashmir valley, inputs are coming in that a large number of local terrorists are returning from their hideouts to meet their families without weapons even as the security forces are talking to their parents to convince them to shun the path of violence and stay in the mainstream to lead a normal life rather than getting killed in encounters with the forces.

Top government sources said the initiative is part of government’s ‘Operation All In’ in Jammu and Kashmir where the Army wants to give peace a chance and allow the misguided youth to return to the mainstream.

“A large number of terrorists are coming back to meet their families in villages and towns. We are telling the parents to convince them to stay back and lead their normal life. If they want to go to their colleges or carry on doing what they were doing earlier, they can avail this opportunity,” the sources said.

Sources said the elders of these terrorists, including their parents, family members and village heads, have also been conveyed the message that they should discourage the youth to return to jungles as sooner or later they would die from the bullets of the Army and would be wasting their lives.

Sources said the number of terrorists returning home to meet families is likely to increase significantly around the Eid after the end of Ramzan.

In 2017, the Army killed over 200 terrorists across the Kashmir valley, while in this year, it has managed to eliminate more than 60 of them on the LoC and in the hinterland. The trend in recent times in Kashmir has been that local terrorists pose for propaganda videos and get killed within days after getting identified on the social media.

Sources said the Srinagar based 15 Corps of the Army has also ceased proactive operations against terrorists to honour the ceasefire and is dealing leniently with the issue despite inputs about terrorists coming to meet their families. On the other hand, sources said to obstruct the peace initiative in Kashmir where several local terrorists may return to normal lives, Pakistan-backed terror groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Toiba have activated their foreign terrorists to launch attacks on the security establishments to provoke troops there.

In one such attempt, terrorists had carried out a stand off attack on the 13 Rashtriya Rifles camp in Hajin area near Srinagar where they fired small arms and launched grenades but failed to cause any damage on Tuesday night.

Army has also received inputs about the presence of terrorists on their launch pads across the Line of Control and has enhanced security measures to prevent any infiltration or any sensational action to be carried out by the terrorist outfits.
