Kerala DGP promises action against police

Kochi: Expressing concern over the deteriorating conduct of police in the State, DGP Loknath Behera today said action would be taken against erring cops.

A high-level meeting would be convened to discuss the issue, he told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram.

Wide criticism against police in media, including social ones, for causing the death of two persons in Alappuzha and thrashing an elderly person at Malappuram surfaced in the Assembly today.

Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala said the Chief Minister, who is having Home portfolio, had lost control over men in uniform. The DGP was taking tuition to cops to discipline them, he said.

Welfare Minister A K Balan said there were a few incidents caused due to police high-handedness. The Government would take action, he said.
