Kochi: Suspended top cop Jacob Thomas got a shot in the arm when the Supreme Court today stayed Kerala High Court’s contempt proceedings against him.

The court said Jacob had not criticised any judge and that he had only sought to correct the system. The Supreme Court will conduct further hearing of the case on April 11. Thomas had complained to the Central Vigilance Commission and the Chief Justice of India that two High Court judges and the State Lokayukta were diluting some vigilance cases against top leaders.

He said he had proof to support his allegations. Cases like Pattoor land deal involving former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, battery case against former Finance Minister K M Mani, vigilance case against former PDS Minister Anoop Jacob and charges of nepotism against former minister E P Jayarajan were some of them.

He said most of the times he was subjected to character assassination by the court which intervened to prevent investigation to reach the culprits in corruption cases. He said there was high-level conspiracy against him and sought an impartial probe into it.

Jacob was suspended for saying at a function in Thiruvananthapuram that law and order in the State had collapsed. He was served chargesheet by the government. His reply to it was rejected by the government.
