Kannur: A court in Alappuzha has given death sentence to former CPM local secretary R Byju in connection with the murder of Cherthala Diwakaran of Congress in 2009.
The Alappuzha Sessions Court sentenced life Imprisonment to five others in the case.
Byju was sixth accused in the case.
The court said that Byju was the king player in the case. The murder was a sequel to dispute over sale of coir carpet.
Byju was a standing Committee chairman in Alappuzha municipality. Byju is also an accused in visa fraud case and rape case.
