Centre, State to help Kerala nurse’s trial in murder of Yemeni

Kochi: The Centre and the State are trying to help death convict Nimishapriya Tommy Thomas of Kerala to get fair trial in a case pertaining to killing her Yemeni husband in Yemen. External Affairs Ministry said the matter would be examined through Indian embassy.

It was brought to the notice of the Government by Idukki MP Joice George. The Chief Minister’s office is also trying to persuade the Centre help nurse Nimisha of Kollangode in Palakkad get justice, reports said.

In a 12-page letter sent to many, including people’s representatives, she narrated her agony living along with terrorists sentenced to death. She said she was forced to kill her husband unable to bear the sexual, mental and physical torture of Talal Abdul Mehedi. She accused him of forging a fake marriage certificate to make Nimisha his wife.

It all started when she took financial help from him to start a clinic. Since then, he had been using all money earned and even took away her ornaments. He seized her passport to prevent her escape to India.

A Yemeni NGO is working to help her and has given her letter to Union Minister V K Singh. She had chopped her partner’s body into multiple parts and dumped it in the water tank of their house last year.

Nimisha was already married to a person from Kerala and they had a child. In 2017, she sent back her husband and child to Kerala.
