Kochi: In a major disclosure, a former cop has accused CPM state chief Kodiyeri Balakrishnan of directing him to wind up probe into Mohammad Fasal murder case some years back.

Kodiyeri made direct intervention to weaken the case as CPM’s role in the case became more pronounced, retired Thaliparamba DySP Radhakrishnan told a daily. As Radhakrishnan zeroed in on powerful CPM leaders Karai Rajan and Karai Chandrashekharan, the then government assigned the case to the crime branch.

There was also an attempt on his life due to which he was badly injured and was under treatment for one and half years. Radhakrishnan said he was also suspended after foisting false case against him.

Even as he was conferred IPS, he was not given posting and salary for one and half years, Radhakrishnan who was heading the Special Investigation team said. He said that the death of two persons who had made important disclosure about Fasal case have remained mysterious.

National Democratic Front leader Mohammad Fasal was killed on 22 October, 2006 in Thalassery. The case was handed over to CBI after a prolonged legal battle by his wife.
