A 41-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a car allegedly driven by a minor in Madurai.

Her mother was seriously injured in the accident caused by a car rashly driven in the K K Nagar area on Sunday.

A case has been registered, but police are yet to ascertain the accused, as the minor boy’s grandfather R Muthu Alagappan (57), a homeopathy practitioner, claimed that he was behind the wheels when the accident took place.

According to sources, the deceased, T Leelavathi of Maniseeval, Pudukottai, was here along with her mother Kamalammal to look after her younger sister S Revathy (31), who was undergoing treatment for cancer in a private hospital.

On Sunday morning, when the duo came out of the hospital to buy food, they were knocked down at a junction near Anna Nagar Police Station on the 100 Feet Road.

Leelavathi died on the spot, while her mother Kamalammal was rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital.

According to sources, the vehicle zigzagged along the road, before knocking them down. The front portion of the car was damaged and the city police later seized the vehicle.

A police source said that they suspect the minor boy was behind the wheel, however, there are no witnesses to the accident.
