Passionate Radio Jockey Marconi has bagged the IRFA award 2017 for the Best Breakfast show in Tamil. He is exhilarated about his entire journey from an MBA graduate to an RJ.
He has always been driven by the love and interest to communicate and entertain people. He began his career in this field in 2008 and worked as a part time RJ and then jumped into full-time in his favourite station ‘Radio Mirchi’ in 2015.
About the Radio market, which has taken a back seat these days as a lot of other media have come into play, his response was, “Radio is a sustaining medium and will never lose the market as most people are surprised and amazed by what song will be played next. But it’s also important that we as RJs keep our people engaged with our talks.”
Besides all that, there is his wanderlust as also maintaining a page of his entire travel log. He is also a big time foodie and one who enjoys sleep.
On how important the vocal throw is for an RJ, he says it is more than that. “It’s the modulation that matters. There are a lot of RJs out there who got brilliant voices and for those who have got a normal tone, I feel the way they modulate, the way they apply the pressure in certain areas matter a lot.
A lot of RJ’s now have also stepped into cinemas and on whether he looks at that avenue, he is quite affirmative.
“Of course yes. Though my focus is inclined on RJ, I feel it’s important to expand one’s fields. So if I get an offer I would definitely go for it.”
There are a lot of people who aspire to become RJs, what his advice to them would be, he says it has to come from within.
“It all deals with how good you are at entertaining people. Personally I never attended any course as such to become one. It was the belief and the passion that drove me to this field. Sometimes it is definitely good to take lessons from your predecessors who have been in the field for long.
So, for all the aspiring people out there who strive to become RJs, I would like to take an instance here. If you want to impress someone be it a boy or a girl, the final minute what you talk matters. If you make the person laugh you succeed and if the person feels bored you’ll have to work more to create the impact. So the impact of your words on the other person plays a role is what I feel.”
