Government run liquor shop vandalised

The residents of Puliyakulam in the city today ransacked a Government-run wine shop in the area.

The residents, majority of them being women, raised slogans against the Government and damaged the shutters of the shop, police said. They hurled the liquor bottles onto the road, as the administration failed to close down the shop as assured some days ago.

The administration has closed down two wine shops in the vicinity few days ago. The sudden attack on the liquor shop, after lull of some two months, resulted in tension in the area. Police arrived at the scene and managed to disperse the agitators, assuring to take up the matter with administration, they said.
