Filing of nominations for the November 19 Assembly polls for the Thanjavur constituency began today. The Naam Tamizhar Katchi candidate, A. Nalladurai, filed his nomination papers with revenue divisional officer- cum-returning officer C. Suresh.

Nalladurai, 52, an advocate by profession and resident of Srinivasapuram in Thanjavur, is the party’s state coordinator.

Nalladurai alleged that polls to the Thanjavur constituency was countermanded during the May 16 elections following cash distribution to voters and other malpractices indulged by the AIADMK and the DMK candidates – M. Rangasamy and Dr. Anjugam Boopathy respectively. He questioned the rationale behind the decision of election commission not to declare the two candidates ‘disqualified’.

With AIADMK, DMK, BJP and NCP having decided to contest in the polls, Thanjavur constituency is now all set to witness a multi-cornered contest.

AIADMK candidate M Rangasamy and DMK candidate Anjugam Boopathy are expected to file their nominations on October 28.

Though the People’s Welfare Front (PWF) and Tamil Maanila Congress have decided not to contest the elections, the BJP is yet to name its candidate. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has named its state general secretary Karikal Chozhan as its candidate.
