To bring in an element of fun while getting youth to become hands-on and gain experience in automobile engineering, the Coimbatore Radio Control Racers Association organised a three-day national level race of Radio Control (RC) cars, here today.
Conducted in association with with Kovai Modelers Club, the race that is on at GeeDee Driving Institute till August 16 has become a latest racing mania.
The Institute has laid a track, on the outskirts, where one can race the radio-controlled cars. As many as 30 racers are participating in the event.
Mechanical and automobile engineering students as well as electrical and electronic engineering students are expected to get a chance to learn the fundamentals of automobile engineering. Although these cars are one-eighth scale in size, except for a gearbox all
features of a real car are present in these cars.
The cars work on methanol and can touch a maximum speed of up to 120 kmph and accelerate from 0-100 in just three seconds.
