To lodge their protest against the Kerala Government over the reported construction of a check dam across Bhavani river, the lifeline of the western districts of Tamil Nadu, a few activists of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam (TPDK) today staged a demonstration in front of the Kerala Samaj office here.

All major political parties and organisations had taken up the issue of dam construction, which they said would affect the flow of drinking and irrigation water to Tirupur, Erode and Coimbatore districts, and had formed a human chain and tried to cross over to Kerala to stage a demonstration at the site a few days ago.

As part of exerting pressure on the Kerala Government over the issue and also on the Tamil Nadu Government to act swiftly, about 25 TPDK activists raised slogans, picketing the Kerala Samaj office, police said. However, all the workers were removed, they said.

The Tamil Nadu Government has decided to file a suit in the Supreme Court in this regard.
