3 die as Okchi sweeps across Kerala, downpour continues

Kottayam: Three persons died in Kerala in the heavy rain triggered by cyclone Okchi centred in Indian Ocean on Thursday.

A couple,Appu Nadar, 75, of Kattakada and wife Sumathi died due to electrocution from the power line that snapped near their house in Thiruvanthapuram.

An autorickshaw driver Vishnu, 40, died as a result of a tree falling on his vehicle near Kollam. The government has cautioned pilgrims visiting Sabarimala hill shrine and other hilly areas in the southern parts of the state.

It was raining heavily in Nillackal and Pamba in Sabarimala. Pilgrims are not allowed to park their vehicles near Pamba river as its level has risen considerably.

Meanwhile, Southern Railways has announced cancellation and regulation in train operations. Chennai Egmore 16723 will culminate at Chennai central. Punnalur-Kanyakumari 56715 will terminate at Neyatinkara .

Kollam-Chennai-Egmore 16724 will start from Thiruvanthapuram Central.

Nagercoil-Kochuveli passenger 56318 and 56319, Kollam-Kanyakumari memu 66304& and 66305, Kanyakumari-Punalur 56716, Nagercoil-Kottayam 56304 passenger trains have been cancelled.
