Kochi: A cop was suspended as he was found guilty of causing the death of two persons during a vehicle check at NH 66 in Allappuzha the other day.

The SP S Surendran probed the incident and found Sub Inspector Soman of Kuthiyathodu police station prima facie responsible for the death of Sumi, 34, wife of Shebu and another person Vichu, 24.

The two victims, traveling in different two wheelers, were involved in the mishap caused by the hot chase by police jeep to apprehend Shebu who allegedly ignored the police team which signalled him to stop.

Shebu’s wife Sumi died after she failed to respond to treatment yesterday. This triggered public protests forcing police to act, police said.

A department level action has been ordered against Soman. Shebu, Sumi and their two daughters were returning home after visiting Kanichukulangara temple.
