KOCHI: Three members of a family and another person from Kerala – who joined the IS – were killed in a bomb attack in Afghanistan.

According to police, Shihaz, his wife Ajmala and their child, and another person Mohammad Mansad were killed in a US air strike. All the four are from Kasaragod.

Reports say that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) informed Kerala police about the death.

However, there is no official confirmation from the Afghan Government. The death occurred in an air attack carried out by the U.S. forces in Nangarhar Province in East Afghanistan bordering Pakistan.

Out of 22 persons from Kerala who had joined the IS, 14 were killed in U.S. strikes in Syria last year.

An NIA court on March 25 sentenced a 30-year-old woman operative, Yasmin Mohammad from Bihar, to seven years rigorous imprisonment in connection with the Kerala IS recruitment case.
