Kochi: A police inspector was taken to task for allegedly ignoring the security arrangements of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who comes under Z Plus security.

Sources said, Angamali Circle Inspector (CI) Mohammad Riyas was penalised for taking the matter lightly on the night of November 17 when the CM was traveling to Thrissur.

“It was his responsibility to provide safe transit from TELK in Angamali to the border at Karukutty. As the CI floundered, Deputy Superintendent of Police K B Prafful Chandran took up the responsibility to provide security for CM’s convoy with help from Nedumbassery police,” an official source said.

Following this, Riyas was put on night patrolling duty at Muvattupuzha by Aluva Rural SP A V George the same night.

Meanwhile, Prafful Chandran said that it was not a security lapse. “There was a break for a short time at Karukutty and it is not a serious issue,” he said.
