SFI March seeking probe on student’s death turns violent

Kochi: SFI activists march seeking a probe into the death of a school student, turned violent in Kottayam today.

The SFI activists smashed the window panes of Cross Roads School in Pampady demanding investigation into the suicide of a ninth standard boy Binto Eapen, 14.

They also damaged furniture, police said. Police used lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the irate protesters.

Some protesters and policemen were injured in the incident. Binto was found dead inside the house on Saturday and it was suspected to be a case of suicide.

Parents said that the school authorities had scolded him for faring bad in studies and had threatened to detain him to attain cent percent pass in tenth standard.

The school authorities denied the charges.
