Toll touches 13, as one more succumbs to Nipah virus in Kerala

KOCHI: One more person succumbed to Nipah virus at Kozhikode Medical College on Saturday. With this, the death toll touched 13 in the State.

The victim was identified as Kalyani Amma (62) of Perambra. She was admitted to the hospital on May 16.

Around 29 people have been receiving treatment at various parts of the state for suspected Nipah virus. It includes 11 Kozhikode, 9 in Malapuram, 4 in Kochi, 2 in Kottayam and one each in Thiruvanthapuram, Thrissur and Wayanad.

Meanwhile, five doctors from Kozhikode Medical College – two anesthetists, one pulmonologist, a physician and a surgeon – will undergo training at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi from May 28 to handle the virus-affected patients, following a suggestion by the expert team that visited Kozhikode and other affected places.
