Corporation sanitary workers have sought the intervention of the District Collector for timely receipt of their basic salary and other benefits.

Sanitary workers of the Mettupalayam municipality in a petition to District Collector TN Hariharan today said they were not being paid the minimum salary. There were 151 workers on contract with the municipality and have been working for the last six years. Though they are to be paid Rs 300 daily for the year 2016-2017, the workers allege that they do not receive that amount.

They also said men and women are paid differently. While men get Rs 220, women are paid only Rs 180. The payment was in cash when it had to be through banks.

In another petition, contract sanitary workers working for Coimbatore Corporation told the District Collector that they were not receiving PF or ESI benefits.

The petitioners alleged that though money was deducted from their salary, no receipts were given. To make matters worse, the salary was also not being paid on time. They wanted the Collector to look into the issue and ensure that action was taken.
