In view of the growing concern on child safety, the local chapter of Young Indians (Yi) is launching the ‘Public Charter on Child Safety’ along with Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation tomorrow.

The charter on child safety refers to a document outlining the principles an individual should follow to keep any child safe.

Child safety is a growing concern with increase in violence against children right from child labour, sexual abuse and in such a scenario, the children should be aware on how to protect themselves from such situations and also they should be empowered to tell when they face such issues, a Yi release said here.

At the same time, parents should also be equipped enough to handle the situation, as they also faced a communication gap when having to talk to their own children on such issues, it said.

With awareness and prevention as top priorities, Yi has launched ‘Project Masoom’ at all 40 chapters across the country with an objective to take the awareness message about Child Safety to children and the adults across India.

The local chapter, under the project has been involved in sensitising children on child Safety in Corporation, Government and private schools in the city for the past two years and so far sensitised over 60,000 children, he said.

Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan and Director, Arigatou International, New York Rebeca Rios-Kohn will unveil the charter for safety and violence against children, it said.
