Total exemption from NEET is the declared policy of Tamil Nadu government, the State education minister, K S Sengottayan said today.

Replying to a specific question on the development on one year exemption for the State, after the assurance from Union Minister, Nirmala Seetharaman, Sengottayan told reporters that the Government wanted total exemption from NEET, for the benefit of students, particularly from rural areas.

Efforts are on to prepare the students to face common tests in future, he said.

Meanwhile, Puthiya Tamizhakam President, Dr Krishnasamy opposed the move by the State government seeking one year exemption through ordinance after the statement by Nirmala Seetharaman.

The Supreme Court, which nullified the 85 per cent reservation, will throw the ordinance to dust bin, Krishnasamy told reporters here.

Stating that Tamil Nadu will get an additional 1,500 seats, over the 2,500 seats already reserved for it through NEET, he sought to know the fate of nearly 33,000 students who passed the test and waiting for merit list, once the exemption was given for one year.

The statements of Union Ministers, Nirmala Seetharam and Pon Radhakrishnan were really shocking and surprising, since the Centre itself was insisting for NEET, Krishnasamy said.
