The Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court on Monday granted bail to Swami Gangeshananda also known as Hari Swami, whose genitals were chopped off by a law student, on completion of 90 days’ remand period.

The student earlier told the police that she had been raped by the Sanyasi for the last six years and she was forced to take the extreme step after he tried to rape her on the night of May 19 last.

The swami had been frequenting the girl’s house at Pettah in Thirvananthapuram for several years for performing pujas to bring relief to her bed-ridden father. During those visits, he would allegedly rape the girl, whenever he got a chance, police said.

The 23-year-old student was later shifted to the State-run Nirbhaya Home.
