Police have started probing the death of 52-year-old Ravichandran, nephew of AIADMK MP from Namakkal P.R. Sundaram, at a city hospital on Monday. Sundaram had alleged medical negligence as the reason behind his nephew’s death.

According to police, Ravichandran met with an accident 45 days back and was admitted at Ortho One Hospital in the city. He was discharged a few days later. However, he was admitted again in the hospital for severe shoulder and leg pain. Doctors performed a surgery on him on Monday. Ravichandran’s condition deteriorated suddenly and in spite of doctors’ efforts, he died.

Suspecting overdose of anaesthesia, Ravichandran’s wife lodged a complaint with the Singanallur police, who have registered a case. Sundaram said he would submit a petition to the Police Commissioner seeking action against the hospital.

Meanwhile, the hospital denied that the death was due to medical negligence.
