App-based cab services were launched at Coimbatore North and Podanur stations by Salem Division of Southern Railway on Friday.

This is to help passengers get cab services easily and protect them from being over charged, according to a railway statement.

The services were launched by the station managers in the presence of officers and staff of Salem Division.

Services are being operated by Eagle Fleet Services who will operate the services through Go Taxi and Red Taxi. The annual earnings out of these two contracts are expected to be about Rs 16 lakh per annum. About 850 cars are likely to be deployed in the services of rail passengers, it added.

Parking spaces of 480 sqm in Podanur and 400 sqm in Coimbatore North have been allotted for the taxis.
