Out of this, five were carrying unbooked luggage. This is the highest collection by the division on a single day, according to A. Vijuvin, Senior Divisional Manager. On April 4, the division collected Rs. 3,37,595 as fine from ticketless travellers.

“Since it was a long weekend, there was a huge rush. A team railway personnel – 46 officials, TTEs, inspectors of commercial branch, and 11 RPF personnel, undertook the special drive in 41 trains in in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur and Mettupalayam stations,” Vijuvin added.

“In order to prevent rail passengers travelling without valid ticket or carrying unauthorised luggage, the commercial branch of Salem Division is taking all necessary steps on a regular basis by conducting surprise checks in railway stations and trains, during which time all the entrances of a station are covered and tickets checked,” said a senior official.

The Divisional Manager, Hari Shankar Verma, lauded the personnel and urged them to continue with their efforts in this direction.
