Chennai: A team of Opposition MPs from Tamil Nadu, led by the DMK, submitted a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi on Thursday seeking an order for a floor test in the Assembly tfor the AIADMK government led by Eddapadi K Palaniswami to prove its majority.

The memorandum said that as 19 MLAs of ruling party had withdrawn their support, it was clear that the Palaniswami’s government had lost its majority in the 234-member House.

Claiming that the government had only the support of just 113 MLAs including the Speaker, the memorandum said, “but while appointing and administering oath to the Deputy Chief Minister on the advice of the Chief Minister, the Governor had failed in his constitutional duty to ascertain the fact whether the Chief Minister was heading a majority government”.

“The leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly had brought this situation to the notice of the Governor immediately and wrote a letter on August 22, requesting him to direct the Chief Minister to prove his majority in the House. But the Governor is yet to act on the said representation,” it added.

It was imperative that the Governor is directed by the President to order for the floor test immediately for the AIADMK government headed by Palaniswami to prove his majority, the memorandum said.
