Chennai cops are now using a novel approach to trace the owners of abandoned two-wheelers. A Facebook page named ‘Missing Two Wheelers’ has been opened by the Chennai Police to track them down.

As many as 4,000 vehicles are parked daily in the parking lot near Koyambedu bus stand. It was reported to the police that many of the bikes have been lying unattended for months. A special team of cops looked into the matter and retrieved 65 abandoned vehicles. The details of the vehicle owners were collected from the RTO office, only to reveal a shocking fact that the addresses obtained mostly led them to locked houses.

So, in order to trace the owners, the Chennai Police have opened a Facebook page ‘Missing Two Wheelers’ (https://www.facebook.com/Missing-Two-Wheelers-304527859732276/timeline/ ). The pictures and details of the abandoned vehicles along with the owner’s name, address (provided during the time of purchase), and license plate number are uploaded on the page.

The page also gives the public some tips for tracing lost vehicles easily. A latest post on the page says “One Small Advice: whenever you purchase a new two wheeler, car or in your old vehicle keep one cell phone charged for example, buy a prepaid SIM card and activate it in an ordinary model cell phone and keep it in your vehicle in a secret place. Whenever your vehicle goes missing, it can be traced through tower location. Kindly keep the cell phone in silent mode.”

The owners of the listed vehicles can approach crime-branch inspector of Koyambedu police station, Devaraj (94981-33428, 94441-69996) and get further information. The vehicles can be retrieved by producing the appropriate original documents at the K11 police station, Koyambedu.

The page is currently being followed by 6800 plus people, and has received appreciation from many for the initiative.
