Watchman dies after weak rain-drenched wall collapses

The watchman of a government school near Avinashi in Tirupur district was killed, when the wet wall of his house fell on him early today.

According to police, Makali (60), a resident of Oomeyanchettipalaym, after his night duty, returned home and sat leaning on a wall in his house in the morning.

Suddenly, the wall he was leaning collapsed and Makali, who was caught under the debris, died on the spot, they said.

The wall had reportedly become wet due to heavy rains that lashed the area the last few days. Anuppalpalayam police are investigating.
