Dengue awareness workers in Karamadai panchayat today submitted a memorandum to the District Collector as they have not received payment for the last two months.

The around 50 workers at the primary health centre in Karamadai are yet to receive the monthly payment for July and August,

They said that the salary was less than that being given in other panchayats and also lower than what was offered.

“We have been in this job for the past five years and were getting paid Rs 275 daily till recently. When we checked with local authorities we were told that the per day pay had been reduced to Rs 183 by the District Collector,”
said worker P Shanthi.

“We come from rural areas and we don’t have any transport facilities and have to spend Rs 40-60 daily towards transport alone,” said another worker A Thenmozhi.

The petitioners requested Collector TN Hariharan to pay them their earlier salary of Rs 275 per day and clear the arrears.
