Coimbatore woke up to a shocking news of two girls gone missing from a school in the city. The girls, both 13 years of age, had reportedly gone missing from school as soon as they got off the school van on Friday.

According to police sources, R Lekha Shree (13) and G Sathya (13) studying in Grade 7 of Amrita Vidyalayam at Nallampalayam, had left home in the school van this morning. The students in the van were also accompanied by a teacher. As soon as they were dropped at the school, the girls had reportedly sneaked out of the campus.

Police sources denied reports that the girls have been kidnapped. “The girls had told their friends a week ago that they would not appear for their half early exams scheduled next week. One of the girls had also left home with a bag of clothes. When her mother asked her about it, she said that she was taking a set of clothes for some sports activities at school.”

The parents were shocked when they received an SMS from the school that the girls were absent. “Soon after the attendance call, a message is sent to the parents from the school in case the child does not turn up,” police sources said.

A team is on the look-out for the two girls. Bus stands and Railway stations have been alerted. The photographs of the two girls have been circulated on social media. When The Covai Post contacted the school, the school did not provide any clear information.

The two girls were reportedly found at the Calicut railway station. The police have traced the girls using the iPhone that one of the girls was in possession of, sources said.
