Senior politician and former Minister K.R. Gouri Amma on Wednesday said politicians and public servants should learn history from the sacrifices made by leaders. The Kerala Assembly should set an example to the entire nation and the world, she said

Speaking at a function organised to honour veteran leaders on the occasion of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Assembly, Gouri Amma, who served as the Revenue Minister of the world’s first elected Communist Government in 1957, said women were no more safe in the country. “Gone are the days when women used to move around freely at any point of time in the State,” she said and urged the Chief Minister, who was also present, to venture out in a woman’s costume to check the law and order situation prevailing in the State.

Gouri Amma and E. Chandrasekharan Nair, 88, were honoured on the occasion.

Chief Minister Pinnarayi Vijayan lauded the Gouri Amma and Chandrashekharan Nair for their contribution in the development of the society. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also spoke. Gouri Amma left the CPI-M a few years ago citing discrimination and floated the Janahipathiya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS).
